Software Engineer (AI/ML)

At AIAIAI we're looking for a Software Engineer specializing in AI/ML to join our tech team.

Full-time · Amsterdam

Where could AIAIAI fit into your professional life?

First off, thank you for considering AIAIAI. Yes, we're looking for an AI/ML Engineer. And yes, there are plenty of other opportunities out there. If you're exploring your options, you might be thinking about growth, creativity, a sense of purpose, or just a healthier work-life balance. We get it—everyone wants their own version of a "perfect fit."

So here's why you might consider AIAIAI:

We're an early-stage startup with significant traction, on track to become cashflow positive this year—so there's no frantic chasing of funding to stay afloat. Our team is small (currently 10 of us) by design, and we plan to grow to around 15 by the end of the year to ensure profitability. From there, we'll scale linearly—about 1-2 new hires a month—depending on our sales results.

You'll be working with an experienced development team that's already built and scaled successful SAAS products. AIAIAI itself was born out of two sister companies, Lifely and Nucleoo, giving you access to a broader network of colleagues and experts in Amsterdam, Granada, and Madrid. We hope you look back in 20 years and say, "That's where I did some of the most impactful and fulfilling work of my life."

AI—yes, it's a buzzword filled with smoke and mirrors.

That's not us (or at least, we're trying not to be). Because no matter how slowly actual adoption might be happening, we're all being affected by AI in one way or another—teachers feeling the pressure to adapt, office employees expected to deliver more in less time. There's a huge segment of people, especially once you drive a bit outside big cities, who aren't "prompting" or tapping into AI to boost productivity. Their jobs—and the relevance of their employers—is at risk.

That's what we address at AIAIAI: helping everyday people use AI in a way that feels natural to them. We meet them where they are, instead of asking them to change. We've designed our product so that both employees and companies don't end up saying "AI AI AI" three years from now because they were blindsided. It's a product being used daily by users who'd typically fall into the late majority or even "laggards" on the adoption curve. And that's the mission you'd help drive: making a fast-changing world a bit more manageable for people who just need it to work.

What can you expect from the role?

As our Software Engineer specializing in AI/ML, you'll be at the heart of our AI-powered platform, designing and implementing the agentic systems that make our product intelligent and user-friendly. You'll work on everything from using the latest models to set up agentic flows, ensuring our AI solutions are robust, scalable, and accessible to everyday users. You'll collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and fellow engineers to create AI experiences that truly meet users where they are.

Responsibilities

  1. AI Integration Architecture: Build and maintain scalable infrastructure for integrating multiple AI services and LLMs, including API management, request routing, failover systems, and response aggregation across different providers.

  2. Multi-LLM Orchestration: Design systems that seamlessly connect and coordinate between various AI providers (OpenAI, Anthropic, open-source alternatives), implement intelligent model selection, load balancing, and cost optimization strategies across different AI services.

  3. Data Pipeline Development: Design and implement robust ETL/ELT pipelines for preprocessing data before AI service consumption and post-processing AI outputs, using tools like Airflow, Spark, and cloud-native solutions.

  4. Deployment & Monitoring: Deploy AI integration systems to production, implement comprehensive monitoring across multiple AI providers, manage API rate limits and quotas, and maintain CI/CD pipelines for integration workflows. Track performance metrics, costs, and reliability across all connected AI services.

  5. Research & Innovation: Stay current with latest AI service offerings and capabilities, evaluate new AI providers and APIs, prototype innovative integration patterns, and assess emerging tools that can enhance our platform's ability to connect and optimize different AI solutions.

Who are you?

  1. AI Integration Expertise: 3+ years of hands-on experience working with AI/ML systems, with strong knowledge of Python, API integration patterns, and understanding of various AI model types (LLMs, vision models, embedding models) and their capabilities.

  2. Multi-Provider AI Experience: Practical experience integrating multiple AI services and APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Hugging Face, etc.), working with vector databases, implementing RAG systems, and using orchestration frameworks like LangChain, LlamaIndex, or custom integration solutions.

  3. Data Engineering Skills Proficiency in building data pipelines, working with both SQL and NoSQL databases, and handling large-scale data processing.

  4. Cloud & MLOps Experience with cloud ML services (Azure ML, AWS SageMaker, GCP AI Platform), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and MLOps tools for model deployment and monitoring.

  5. Software Engineering Foundation Solid programming skills with experience in API development, version control (Git), and software engineering best practices.

  6. System Design & Communication: Ability to design scalable integration architectures, evaluate and compare different AI service offerings, explain technical trade-offs to stakeholders, and document integration patterns and best practices.

  7. Passion for Applied AI Genuine interest in making AI accessible to everyday users, with awareness of AI ethics, bias considerations, and responsible AI development. You don’t just love playing with AI, you get satisfaction from using it to bring value to your end users.

Don't let a partial skills match hold you back – if you have experience in most areas and can learn the rest on the job, we want to see your application. We believe in learning through doing and value candidates who can grow with us.

What do we offer?

  • Impact & Growth: Help shape how we onboard and retain clients at a crucial stage in AIAIAI's growth. Your success will directly influence our speed of scaling—and your own career trajectory.

  • Location & Flexibility: Our office sits on the canals of Amsterdam, a hub of creativity and culture. As a rule of thumb, we believe it's beneficial to be in the office between 2 and 3 days per week, but we're not going to be a stickler about it.

  • A Stable Early-Stage Environment: We're on track to become cashflow positive, so you're joining a startup with real traction (and less existential risk).

  • Room to Innovate: We encourage you to bring your best ideas to the table within your contractual hours—minimal hustle-culture overdrive.

  • Collaboration & Community: While we're a tight-knit group of 8, we're also connected to the larger networks of Lifely and Nucleoo of 120+ employees, offering broader collaboration opportunities.

Competitive Compensation

We offer a salary and benefits package aligned with your experience, with a target range between €70,000 and €90,000 (all-in). Since we don't have a direct benchmark for this role, we'll collaborate with you to ensure the offer is fair and competitive based on your expectations.

No sponsorship

Currently, we're unable to offer sponsorship. To be eligible for this position, applicants must possess either a Dutch work permit obtained independently of employment or be a citizen of the EU, EEA, or Switzerland.
